Orion Township Voters Approve All Proposed Public Safety Millages in General Election
ORION TOWNSHIP, MI – Orion Township voters approved three public safety proposals during the November General Election, renewing dedicated funding for Police and Fire/EMS services and approving additional funding for Fire/EMS capital improvements and staffing.
The sentiment among Orion Township leadership is one of both relief and gratitude.
After the August Primary Election yielded a low voter turnout and rejection of the initial two public safety millage proposals, Orion Township returned to the General Election ballot with modified proposals for voters to consider:
- A renewal of the expired Police operating millage.
- A renewal of the expired Fire & EMS operating millage.
- A separate new 0.400-mill levy for Fire Department capital improvements and staffing.
In contrast to the Primary Election, the General Election drew strong voter participation, and Orion Township voters approved all three proposals.
“We would like to thank everyone who participated in the General Election,” said Orion Township Supervisor Chris Barnett. “Regardless of how they voted, I appreciate every resident who took the time to participate in this election. The results provide dedicated funding for public safety operations, and I am grateful for the thoughtful consideration residents gave these important community decisions.”
“The passage of the operating police millage reflects the community’s investment in public safety. We appreciate the residents of Orion Township for their support and continued partnership with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office,” said Orion Township Substation Commander, Lieutenant Darrin Zehnpfennig.
Assistant Fire Chief John Pender added, “We couldn’t be more grateful for the support of the community. Now, our focus turns to the future. We will continue moving the department forward by investing in the staffing, equipment, and resources needed to support our mission and provide the exceptional service our community has come to expect and deserve.”
