Royal Oak has their new Football Coach

Royal Oak has their new Football Coach.

Written Friday January 20th at 11:30 PM

There will be a new football coach in Royal Oak

According to a source the Ravens will name Collin Campbell as their new varsity football coach. He replaces Dustyn Truitt whom was placed on administrative leave after allegations of inappropriate language in October.

Campbell was confirmed at the Royal Oak/Berkley boys basketball game during halftime on Friday night. He is a teacher in the building.

He is the third coach in two years.

Campbell takes over the football program that is in complete disarray. Royal Oak is 34-107 since 2006 and was 1-8 last season. In Campbell’s three games as interim coach they were 0-3 and was outscored 129-0 in that stretch.

Campbell was the junior varsity coach under Truitt before taking both jobs last season.

The Ravens have to replace a ton of talent and proven experience especially at quarterback and wide receiver next season. They won’t have Mekhi Jenkins as he will graduate and head to Central Michigan next season. Also they won’t have lineman Ellie Finch as she will be graduating as well. Royal Oak has most of their defense in linebackers Michael Herman, Steve Johnson, and Elijah Lyons, along with linemen Sam Klonke and Aiden Tesch. They have some offensive playmakers in running back Nathan Benton, and wide receiver/defensive back Owen Louwers coming back.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with Royal Oak this season. My thoughts on the hire will be mentioned on next week’s podcast.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

Gov. Whitmer Lowers Flags After Mass Shooting in Monterey Park, California

LANSING, Mich – Governor Gretchen Whitmer, in accordance with a proclamation issued by President Biden, has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags within the State Capitol Complex and upon all public buildings and grounds across the state of Michigan to be lowered to half-staff immediately on Monday, January 23 through sunset on Thursday, January 26 to honor and remember the victims of the shooting in Monterey Park, California.

“I’m heartbroken for the families and loved ones of the victims as we grieve this tragedy at a time when many celebrate the Lunar New Year with family,” said Governor Whitmer. “We must work together to prevent this senseless gun violence that claims the lives of too many Americans and upends the lives of countless others every day. We are holding the entire Monterey Park community in our hearts.”

On Saturday, a gunman opened fire at a dance studio in Monterey Park, California, killing 10 people and injuring 10 others.

The State of Michigan remembers the victims and stands in solidarity with residents of the State of California by lowering flags to half-staff. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations also are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff.

To lower flags to half-staff, flags should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The process is reversed before the flag is lowered for the day.

Flags should be returned to full-staff on Friday, January 27, 2023.

Lower Health Care Costs for Michiganders

Lower Health Care Costs for Michiganders

Friend ––

No one should have to choose between getting the health care and prescription drugs they need and putting food on the table for their families.

There’s no question this dilemma is a reality too many Michiganders face. That’s why I joined with my Senate colleagues to pass into law the Inflation Reduction Act — and I want to make sure you, your family and friends know about several of the law’s provisions that went into effect January 1, 2023, which are lowering health care and prescription drug costs:

· Insulin now costs no more than $35 a month for seniors on Medicare.

· All vaccines approved under Medicare Part D are free.

· Prescription drug rebates will go into effect for Medicare, requiring pharmaceutical companies to pay back the federal government if prices for critical prescription drugs covered through Medicare rise faster than inflation. This measure is aimed to lower costs for Medicare patients and discourage pharmaceutical companies from exploiting inflation to hike up their prices.

If you are a senior on Medicare, these new Inflation Reduction Act provisions will be automatically applied, and you do not need to take any action.

For more information about how the Inflation Reduction Act will cut health care costs for Michiganders, CLICK HERE.

Working to expand access to quality, affordable health care and lowering prescription drug prices are among my top priorities as your U.S. Senator –– and I’ll keep fighting to reduce costs.

Coulter Names Jim Ellison New Chief of Older Adult Services

  • Jim Ellison is a former state representative and mayor of Royal Oak.
  • Working with the Board of Commissioners, Coulter created the Chief of Older Adult Services position to coordinate and help expand and improve services to older residents.
  • Ellison will work with the county’s Senior Advisory Council and the Board of Commissioner’s Healthy Aging Ad Hoc Committee.

Pontiac, Michigan – Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter announced Thursday that former State Rep. Jim Ellison will become Oakland County’s new Chief of Older Adult Services.

In the position, which Coulter introduced in the 2023 budget that was approved by the Board of Commissioners last year, Ellison will coordinate and help expand and improve the services the county provides to older residents. He also will be working with the county’s Senior Advisory Council and the Board of Commissioner’s Healthy Aging Ad Hoc Committee.

“We have an aging population in Oakland County that has a wide range of needs. I want to make sure that all of the county’s older residents know about the resources that are available to them,” Coulter said. “Jim will bring a broad array of experience and vast knowledge of the county that will be a great benefit to our older residents.”

Ellison was a member of the State House of Representatives from 2017-22, where he served on several committees, including: Families, Children and Seniors; Health Policy; Tax Policy and Local Government.

Before that, he was the Mayor of Royal Oak from 2003 to 2016, was a city Commissioner for four years and has returned to service to the city as a member of the planning commission. He spent most of his career working for the Barton Malow construction company.

“My time on the Families, Children and Seniors committee certainly opened my eyes to the issues that seniors are facing and now, being a senior myself, that’s brought me a new perspective,” Ellison said. “I look forward to meeting with older residents and visiting senior centers across the county to see how we can best meet their needs.”

Ellison and his wife Jodie, the manager of the Royal Oak Animal Shelter, live in Royal Oak. They have eight children and 16 grandkids. Ellison, the founding chairman of the Woodward Dream Cruise committee, spends his spare time working on a classic 1955 Ford Centerline and caring for the pack of pets they’ve adopted over the years, including dogs, cats, rabbits, a pig and a Canadian goose.

He will begin the new job as Oakland County Chief of Older Adult Services on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
