Royal Oak has their new Football Coach

Royal Oak has their new Football Coach.

Written Friday January 20th at 11:30 PM

There will be a new football coach in Royal Oak

According to a source the Ravens will name Collin Campbell as their new varsity football coach. He replaces Dustyn Truitt whom was placed on administrative leave after allegations of inappropriate language in October.

Campbell was confirmed at the Royal Oak/Berkley boys basketball game during halftime on Friday night. He is a teacher in the building.

He is the third coach in two years.

Campbell takes over the football program that is in complete disarray. Royal Oak is 34-107 since 2006 and was 1-8 last season. In Campbell’s three games as interim coach they were 0-3 and was outscored 129-0 in that stretch.

Campbell was the junior varsity coach under Truitt before taking both jobs last season.

The Ravens have to replace a ton of talent and proven experience especially at quarterback and wide receiver next season. They won’t have Mekhi Jenkins as he will graduate and head to Central Michigan next season. Also they won’t have lineman Ellie Finch as she will be graduating as well. Royal Oak has most of their defense in linebackers Michael Herman, Steve Johnson, and Elijah Lyons, along with linemen Sam Klonke and Aiden Tesch. They have some offensive playmakers in running back Nathan Benton, and wide receiver/defensive back Owen Louwers coming back.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with Royal Oak this season. My thoughts on the hire will be mentioned on next week’s podcast.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

Gov. Whitmer Lowers Flags After Mass Shooting in Monterey Park, California

LANSING, Mich – Governor Gretchen Whitmer, in accordance with a proclamation issued by President Biden, has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags within the State Capitol Complex and upon all public buildings and grounds across the state of Michigan to be lowered to half-staff immediately on Monday, January 23 through sunset on Thursday, January 26 to honor and remember the victims of the shooting in Monterey Park, California.

“I’m heartbroken for the families and loved ones of the victims as we grieve this tragedy at a time when many celebrate the Lunar New Year with family,” said Governor Whitmer. “We must work together to prevent this senseless gun violence that claims the lives of too many Americans and upends the lives of countless others every day. We are holding the entire Monterey Park community in our hearts.”

On Saturday, a gunman opened fire at a dance studio in Monterey Park, California, killing 10 people and injuring 10 others.

The State of Michigan remembers the victims and stands in solidarity with residents of the State of California by lowering flags to half-staff. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations also are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff.

To lower flags to half-staff, flags should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The process is reversed before the flag is lowered for the day.

Flags should be returned to full-staff on Friday, January 27, 2023.

Study examines feasibility of tolling some Michigan roads

Study examines feasibility of tolling some Michigan roads

On this week’s Talking Michigan Transportation podcast, a conversation with Eric Morris, Michigan office lead for HNTB, the transportation consultant selected to complete a tolling study.

TMT - Tolling

Some 35 states have at least one facility with tolling. But that number is a little deceiving because Michigan would be counted in that total since there is tolling on big bridges and/or international crossings but no tolling on non-bridge road segments.

Morris says the experts analyzed all 31 highways in Michigan for the study and determined that 14 could become toll roads, including large portions of Interstates 75, 94 and 96.

As Bridge Michigan reported, any tolls would take years to implement and require approval from the Legislature and the governor, among numerous hurdles.

Morris talks about the differences between various road user charge (RUC) options, including mileage-based user fees (MBUF) and tolling and how pilot programs seeking people to participate have been voluntary, so far, including one in Oregon that has generated a lot of discussion.
